Today we are sad to announce the benching of Mikko ‘Chipo‘ Koivula due to him having to attend 6 months military service as part of the Finnish military conscription.
Chipo has been a part of the NYYRIKKI CS:GO team since the start and has played a vital role in the successes that the team have had. During his time in the squad, Chipo won his first LAN event in Pori when the team won the Insomnia.fi Pro tournament, made it to the ESEA Main Playoffs and qualified for Season 2 of the Nordic Championships where they placed 5th.
As always, the Finnish army conscription has come at a terrible time in Chipo’s career when he was just starting to get into his stride on a bigger stage. Although efforts were made to get Chipo accepted into the athlete division of the army, the risk would have been too great for him to delay other aspects of his life such as education.
NYYRIKKI are committed in ensuring that players are able to reach their full potential when playing for the organisation and for this reason, Chipo will remain on the bench and very much part of the runnings in NYYRIKKI in a venture that will allow Chipo to keep learning while he is out of action over the next 6 months.
We want to thank Chipo for his efforts over the past few months and we can assure you that this is not the last you will hear from him in CS:GO.
NYYRIKKI are actively searching for a replacement in the squad and details will follow in the coming weeks.
